Who we are

We are a marketing consulting company specializing in helping small wineries focus their pricing, packaging and brand image to increase their market exposure and sales. As a husband and wife marketing team, we started Vintelligent Marketing to combine and utilize our extensive wholesale, retail and direct-to-consumer wine sales experience, as well as our industry contacts, to help small wineries compete in this very competitive industry

Dan spent almost seven years as the sole wine buyer at the St. Helena Wine Center, one of the finest wine shops in the United States. Before that he worked as a sales representative for a fine wine wholesale distributor, as a cellar rat in a premium Sonoma County winery, on bottling lines, and even driving tractors and forklifts in the vineyards during harvest for Valerie’s family. He has a naturally incredible palate that he has enjoyed refining over the years, and is a kick-ass home and sometimes pretending-to-be-professional chef.

Valerie started her wine industry career in the vineyards on her family’s 400-acre ranch, and spent years working for small wineries. She has handled almost everything but the winemaking ~ bottling lines, tasting room sales, administration, newsletter writing, marketing, social media and event planning. She has a B.A. in Communication from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a program dedicated to the study of all forms of human communication from interpersonal to mass media. She is not a kick-ass cook but she makes a mean spaghetti that involves an important secret ingredient. (OK, not so secret. She adds some red wine to the sauce after dumping it out of the jar.)

We met in high school, married during college, and have spent many years enjoying the process of perfecting our palates. Together we have also traveled through many of the wine regions of France and Italy, some of them by bicycle, attended the Vin Italia wine tasting in Verona, Italy, and have a shared passion for great wine, great food and anything that brings the two together. We also have two energetic kids, Nicholas and Isabelle, and a dog named Guinness because everyone knows that all great wine marketing includes some great beer.
